Industry and Academic Collaboration on Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain, Cognitive Security and more with IBM Academic Programs Webinar

In 1946 IBM joined forces with Columbia University to create the first program called “computer science.” The event changed manufacturing forever in the production planning systems to the supply chain. Terms like Industry 4.0, Digital Twin, factory of the future, sustainability, and agile manufacturing are becoming foundational concepts in the industrial market. We are undergoing another major shift in how data sciences, artificial intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT), robotics, additive manufacturing, blockchain, and cloud technology are becoming part of the digital manufacturing world.

“With the biggest year-over-year increases were oil and energy, up 30 percent, manufacturing and industrial, 15.7 percent higher, and aerospace, automotive and transportation, which is up 13.7 percent.” And according to a study by Deloitte and the Manufacturing Institute, an estimated 3.4 million manufacturing jobs will become available by 2025. The problem? It’s estimated that two million of those will go unfilled due to a skills gap. The same study found manufacturing executives rated 70 percent of current manufacturing employees as deficient in technology and computer skills. – Seattle Times February 7, 2018

One third of the top twenty companies will be disrupted in the next three years by technology. Since 2000, 52% of companies in the Fortune 500 have either gone bankrupt, been acquired or ceased to exist. 72% of companies are vulnerable to disruption within three years. And 54% of CxOs expect more competitors from outside their industry. A study by Deloitte and the Manufacturing Institute found manufacturing executives rated 70 percent of current manufacturing employees as deficient in technology and computer skills (Seattle Times February 7, 2018).

On July 11, 2018 from 12:00 PM EST to 1:00 PM EST; IBM will be broadcasting how we are enabling professors and students in the departments of industrial and systems engineering to be more competitive and collaborative as part of IBM’s Academic Initiative, Skills Academy and Global Entrepreneurship programs.
